Larnaca and Voroklini to modernize water infrastructure

The Larnaca District Administration Organization (EOA) has signed a contract worth 3.1 million euros to replace aging water supply networks in parts of Larnaca and the municipality of Voroklini. The project covers infrastructure upgrades in the Chrysolitissa, Skala, and Soteros parishes of Larnaca, as well as the Archbishop Makarios Avenue area and Voroklini. This initiative is being implemented under the Thalia 2021-2027 cohesion policy program and is co-financed by the European Union.

The primary objective of the investment is to address chronic water loss, reduce frequent service disruptions, and improve the overall reliability of the water supply. According to the EOA, the improvements are expected to directly benefit approximately 1,185 households and businesses. EOA President Angelos Hatzicharalambous noted that complementary measures, such as zoning the network and installing telemetry and central metering systems, are already underway to enhance service efficiency in Voroklini.

In a separate but related effort to manage water resources, the EOA is also participating in the European 'Freshness' project, which aims to reduce water losses in the communities of Vavla, Layia, Skarinou, and Kato Lefkara through a 250,000 euro co-financed pilot initiative focused on energy efficiency and sustainable water use.
