Larnaca water infrastructure upgrades and efficiency initiatives
The Larnaca District Organization for Local Government (EOA) has launched two major initiatives to modernize water infrastructure and reduce water loss. On October 29, 2026, a contract was signed for the replacement of aging water networks in the Oroklini municipal district, as well as the Chrysopolitissa, Skala, and Sotirios parishes and the Archbishop Makarios Avenue area in Larnaca. This project is part of the EU-funded ThALEIA 2021-2027 program and aims to resolve chronic issues with water leakage and unbilled consumption.
Simultaneously, the Larnaca EOA is participating in the FRESHNESS project, funded with 250,000 euros under the Interreg VI-A Greece-Cyprus 2021-2027 program. This pilot initiative focuses on enhancing energy efficiency and responsible water use in the communities of Vavla, Lagia, Skarinou, and Kato Lefkara. A technical meeting regarding this project took place in Limassol on October 20-21, 2026, involving partners such as the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, DEYA Heraklion, DEYA Kos, and the water boards of Larnaca and Limassol. These efforts reflect a broader regional commitment to upgrading water management systems and lowering the carbon footprint of urban water supply chains.
