Concerns raised over unregulated Botox procedures in Cyprus
On October 30, 2026, dermatologist Marinos Sizopoulos raised serious concerns regarding the unregulated administration of Botox treatments in Cyprus. During an appearance on the television program "Protoselido," he highlighted a long-standing issue involving the application of injectable products by non-medical professionals, including aestheticians and hairdressers, as well as the activity of foreign doctors who lack official registration within the country.
Sizopoulos criticized the lack of meaningful intervention from state authorities, asserting that the government remains aware of the situation but has failed to enforce necessary regulations. According to the dermatologist, these illicit practices pose significant risks to public health and result in inadequate patient information regarding the substances being used. He emphasized that such medical procedures must be performed exclusively by qualified physicians in appropriate clinical settings. Despite repeated complaints lodged over the years, the current state of oversight remains insufficient, leaving the practice largely uncontrolled and potentially dangerous for citizens.
