US approves $2.1 billion Patriot missile sale to Ukraine
The United States Department of State announced on October 30, 2026, the approval of a potential sale of 500 Patriot PAC-3 missiles to Ukraine. The deal, valued at an estimated $2.1 billion, designates the American corporation Lockheed Martin as the primary contractor.
The procurement will be financed through a combination of international contributions and national resources. Funds from Canada, Germany, and Norway will be channeled through the U.S. JUMPSTART program, while additional funding is expected via an European Union support loan. The decision follows a month-long period of uncertainty, during which Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy repeatedly urged the U.S. to expedite deliveries to protect energy infrastructure and civilians from intensified Russian strikes ahead of the winter season.
This sale is part of broader ongoing efforts by NATO allies to bolster Ukraine’s air defenses, utilizing mechanisms such as the PURL program. While the U.S. has now greenlit the sale, the focus remains on the logistical implementation of these transfers to address the immediate security needs highlighted by Kyiv.
