43-year-old man confesses to murder of 61-year-old woman in Limassol
A 43-year-old Syrian man has been remanded in custody for eight days after confessing to the murder of 61-year-old Olga Vasilieva in Limassol, Cyprus. The victim went missing on October 23, and her disappearance was reported on October 28 by a friend who became concerned when her dog was left unattended. Following the suspect's confession, investigators discovered the body in a sewage well located on the victim’s land in the Saittas area.
The suspect, who had been in a romantic relationship with the victim, admitted to striking her on the head multiple times with a hammer during an argument at his home. According to his testimony, he kept the body at his residence for one night before disposing of it. A forensic examination confirmed the cause of death as severe head trauma caused by a blunt object. The suspect appeared in court without legal representation for the latest remand hearing.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing, with police examining telecommunication data and financial records, as reports indicate the perpetrator had demanded money from the victim prior to the crime. The suspect was reportedly arrested while attempting to leave the country.
