43-year-old man arrested in connection with the disappearance of 61-year-old woman in Limassol
A 43-year-old Syrian man was arrested on October 30 at Larnaca airport while attempting to leave Cyprus, in connection with the disappearance of 61-year-old Bulgarian national Olga Vasilieva. The woman was reported missing on October 28, but authorities believe she has not been alive since October 21. On October 31, the Limassol District Court ordered the suspect to be remanded in custody, initially for six days—though some reports indicate an eight-day period—to facilitate investigations into abduction with intent to commit premeditated murder.
Evidence presented in court includes CCTV footage of a vehicle reversing with its trunk open, witness testimony regarding a scream near the suspect's residence, and the discovery of the victim's abandoned car in the Linopetra area. Police have also recovered two items of women’s clothing from the suspect's luggage. The suspect, who reportedly had a romantic relationship with the victim, denies involvement in her disappearance. He allegedly admitted to defrauding her of up to €20,000 using a fake necklace. Investigators are currently searching the Moni area, where the victim’s phone last emitted a signal, and are examining the suspect's vehicle for forensic evidence. The investigation is ongoing, with police looking into the potential involvement of other individuals.
