Omonoia defeats AEL 2-0 in Cypriot championship match

Omonoia secured a 2-0 victory against AEL at the GSP Stadium on October 31, 2026, during the 8th round of the Cypriot championship. The deadlock was broken in the 15th minute when Dionis successfully converted a penalty, awarded following a VAR review for a handball by Antoniou. Jayden Montnor extended the lead to 2-0 in the 33rd minute with a header, assisted by Evandro. This victory marks a return to winning ways for Henning Berg’s team, bringing them to 15 points in the standings.

With this result, Omonoia moved up to third place, level on points with AEL but ahead due to their head-to-head record, while remaining two points behind the league leaders, AEK. AEL struggled to capitalize on their own opportunities despite sustained effort, as goalkeeper Fabiano prevented them from finding the net. The match served as a crucial confidence booster for Omonoia ahead of their upcoming Europa League fixture against NEC Nijmegen in the Netherlands. Both teams now look toward future challenges, with Omonoia preparing for European competition while AEL aims to address their recent consecutive league losses.
