Cyprus strengthens maritime ties with key Asian markets
Shipping Deputy Minister Marina Hadjimanolis conducted a high-level working visit to Japan, China, and South Korea from October 13 to 29, 2026. The objective of the mission was to bolster Cyprus' profile as a global maritime hub and promote the competitiveness of the Cypriot shipping register to international investors, shipowners, and shipyard representatives.
A central component of the tour took place in Japan, where the Ministry organized its first dedicated event in Tokyo, drawing over 120 representatives from the local shipping and business sectors. Minister Hadjimanolis also participated in the fifth annual Capital Link Japan Maritime Forum and held bilateral discussions with Japan’s Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, Kenta Aoshima, as well as leaders within the Japanese shipbuilding industry. These meetings focused on fostering strategic cooperation between the Cypriot and Japanese maritime markets.
The initiative serves to expand Cyprus' reach within major Asian shipping markets, aiming to secure long-term industrial partnerships and enhance the island's influence in global maritime trade. Following the completion of the visit, the Ministry continues to pursue international outreach strategies to attract further interest in the Cypriot flag and maritime services.
