Memorial service held for late Archbishop Chrysostomos II in Tala
On November 1, 2026, a memorial service and an archieratical concelebration were held in Tala, Paphos, to honor the late Archbishop of Cyprus, Chrysostomos II. The service took place at the Holy Church of the Savior Christ, a location of personal significance to the former primate, and was officiated by the current Archbishop of Cyprus, Georgios.
In his tribute, Archbishop Georgios highlighted the late prelate’s transformative impact on the Church of Cyprus. He noted that Chrysostomos II successfully restored the church hierarchy to the structure it held during the 12th century, a reform that had been absent for eight centuries. Archbishop Georgios credited his predecessor with foundational contributions, including the establishment of the Theological School, the creation of the Clergy Fund, and the launch of numerous schools and kindergartens throughout the country.
Reflecting on the legacy of the late Archbishop, the current primate stated that it will take centuries for the Church of Cyprus to move beyond the profound influence and 'shadow' of Chrysostomos II. These initiatives, particularly in education and administrative reform, remain as pillars of his tenure that ensure his memory continues to shape the institution’s historical identity.
