Private jet crashes in Florida resulting in nine fatalities
A private Learjet 60 aircraft crashed into a residential area of Greenacres, Palm Beach County, Florida, on the afternoon of Sunday, November 1, 2026. The flight, which had departed from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas bound for the Bahamas, went down shortly after 1:00 PM local time. According to the U.S. Secretary of Transportation, Sean Duffy, all nine people on board perished in the incident, which caused a significant explosion and fire upon impact with a mobile home community.
Flight data indicates the aircraft experienced a rapid descent, losing approximately 27,000 feet of altitude within a single minute. Recordings of final communications from the cockpit reveal the pilot issued a "Mayday" distress call, citing severe turbulence, icing conditions, and a critical loss of time before the crash. The impact created a large crater, damaged electrical infrastructure, and destroyed several mobile homes.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have initiated a joint investigation into the causes of the disaster. Recovery operations and forensic examinations at the site remain ongoing to determine the technical or atmospheric factors that led to the uncontrolled descent.
