ELAM holds leadership elections as it prepares for presidential race
The National Popular Front (ELAM) in Cyprus is currently finalizing its leadership structure through an internal electoral process. On November 2, 2026, the party opened the submission of nominations from 11:00 until 21:00. The incumbent leader, Christos Christou, was re-elected unopposed as president, while Petros Kountoureshis is the sole candidate for deputy president. A contest is underway for the three vice-presidential positions, with seven party officials vying for these roles: Charalambos Grigoriou, Andri Dionysiou, Nefeli Kourti, Stylianos Nearchou, Ioannis Oskis, Linos Papayiannis, and Panagiotis Chatzisymeou.
These internal procedures are part of a broader strategic shift as the party seeks to solidify its position ahead of upcoming national challenges. Once a protest-focused movement, ELAM has transitioned toward a more conventional conservative profile, increasingly engaging in legislative cooperation and establishing itself as a significant political entity in Cyprus. As the party finalizes its new leadership, analysts note it is actively positioning itself for influence in the next presidential election, navigating both internal consolidation and public scrutiny regarding its evolving political identity and future alliances.
