ELAM initiates leadership election process and prepares for presidential candidacy
The National Popular Front (ELAM) has officially entered a leadership election phase, with the nomination process occurring on November 2, 2026, between 11:00 and 21:00. Current party leader Christos Christou is seeking re-election, while Petros Kountoureshis has been nominated for the position of Deputy President. Additionally, eight candidates—Charalambos Grigoriou, Andri Dionisiou, Nefeli Kourti, Stylianos Nearchou, Ioannis Oskis, Linos Papagiannis, and Panagiotis Hatzisymeou—are vying for the three available Vice President seats.
This leadership renewal coincides with the party’s strategic pivot toward the upcoming presidential elections. ELAM, which was founded in 2008 and first contested the presidency in 2012 under Giorgos Charalambous, has undergone a significant branding shift. Having moved away from its origins as a protest movement with ties to Golden Dawn, the party now presents itself as a conservative political force. Currently established as the third-largest political power, it is reportedly engaging in discussions with other state actors, positioning itself as a potential participant in future governance and executive decision-making. Observers suggest that the party is aiming to formalize its political influence as it navigates the path toward the presidential race.
