Cypriot hospitality association calls for suspension of cash register regulation
The Pan-Cyprian Association of Leisure Center Owners (PASIKA) has formally requested a temporary suspension of the mandatory interconnection of cash registers under the current legislative framework, specifically citing regulation K.D.P. 224/2010. The association argues that the state's requirement for immediate compliance after 17 years of legislative inactivity imposes an unjustifiable financial burden on businesses, estimated at €550 per point of sale.
While PASIKA emphasizes its support for tax compliance and the prevention of tax evasion, it characterizes the currently mandated technological solution as outdated. The association contends that modern, more cost-effective alternatives are available and should be considered by tax authorities. The Tax Commissioner has responded to the association's letter, expressing an intent to hold a meeting soon to discuss the concerns raised.
This dispute highlights a broader conflict between long-standing fiscal regulations and contemporary technological advancements. PASIKA aims to prevent potential fines and sanctions for businesses while advocating for an updated approach to fiscal monitoring that reflects current digital capabilities.
