Limassol police arrest driver after wedding drifting incident at roundabout
A 28-year-old man was arrested in Limassol following a viral social media video showing dangerous driving maneuvers at the Ayios Athanasios roundabout. The incident occurred around 18:30 on Saturday evening, when members of a wedding party reportedly used tow trucks to block the roundabout's exits to facilitate a 'drift show'. The footage, captioned 'Just Married', depicts a vehicle repeatedly sliding sideways while fireworks were set off and bystanders stood on the roadway, causing significant traffic congestion.
Following public outcry, the Ministry of Justice and Public Order condemned the behavior, declaring that public roads are not racing circuits and emphasizing that such actions will not be tolerated. The Limassol traffic police initiated a thorough investigation into the incident, tracking down the participants through the video footage. The 28-year-old suspect, believed to be the driver, was apprehended under a judicial warrant, and authorities have indicated that further arrests are likely as they identify other individuals involved in obstructing traffic and creating safety hazards.
