Police investigate viral drifting stunt at Limassol roundabout
Authorities in Limassol have launched an investigation into a viral video showing a racing car performing dangerous drifting maneuvers at the Ayios Athanasios roundabout. The incident occurred on Saturday, October 31, around 18:00 to 18:30, as part of a wedding procession traveling from a church to a reception venue. The footage shows participants blocking all entrances to the roundabout using tow trucks to create a private performance area, while fireworks were ignited on the road. Dozens of motorists were trapped in their vehicles, forced to wait in traffic queues while the stunt continued.
Lefteris Kyriakou, the assistant police director of operations for Limassol, confirmed that while no complaints were filed at the time of the event, the police identified the incident through social media. He stated that investigators are currently working to identify the individuals involved. Once located, they are expected to be summoned for questioning and charged with traffic and public safety offenses. The authorities emphasized that such behavior puts human lives at risk and constitutes a violation of traffic laws.
