Recent animal welfare law enforcement actions in Thessaloniki
Authorities in Thessaloniki have recently addressed two separate incidents involving violations of animal welfare legislation. On October 31, 2026, a 54-year-old woman was arrested in the Pylaia district after failing to provide proper living conditions for 37 cats and two dogs kept in her home. The woman refused to grant access to regulatory authorities when they arrived for an inspection. She faces a criminal case file and the imposition of administrative fines.
Separately, on the night of November 1, 2026, a 40-year-old woman was arrested in the Analipsi area after leaving her dog locked inside a parked vehicle for over an hour. The incident was reported by a passerby who noticed the animal in distress. In addition to the formation of a legal case, the owner was issued an administrative fine of 1,000 euros. Both cases are currently being processed by the judicial authorities, highlighting the increased focus of Greek police on enforcing animal protection laws.
