Cyprus annual financial accounts for 2025 released by Cystat
The Cyprus Statistical Service (Cystat) released its annual financial accounts for the year ending December 2025, revealing that the total economy recorded a negative net financial position of €31.32 billion. Total financial assets for the economy were reported at €795.13 billion, while total liabilities amounted to €826.45 billion. The assets side was dominated by equities (50.4%), followed by cash and deposits (17.9%) and loans (17.6%), while liabilities were largely comprised of equities (51.9%) and loans (23.4%).
For households, financial assets reached €62.57 billion, with 53.8% held in cash and bank deposits, 25% in equities, and 2.6% in debt securities. Outstanding household loans were measured at €19.89 billion, representing a debt-to-GDP ratio of 51.9%. Non-financial corporations held assets totaling €75.86 billion. The report highlights that despite maintaining strong household savings, the overall economy continues to grapple with a high private debt index, particularly among non-financial businesses that show a significant reliance on lending.
These annual accounts serve as the official record of the country's institutional sector financial health for 2025. The data provides a detailed breakdown of the internal distribution of assets and liabilities, emphasizing the structural differences between household financial management and the debt-heavy nature of the corporate sector.
