Assistant auditor general responds to criticism regarding his office duties
Assistant Auditor General Kyriakos Kyriakou issued a formal statement on November 2, 2026, rejecting claims that he is failing to perform his duties. The response follows comments made during a House Finance Committee meeting on October 30, where former Auditor General Odysseas Michaelides criticized the current administrative structure, suggesting that Kyriakou was underutilized despite his salary. The current Auditor General, Andreas Papaconstantinou, was also present at the hearing.
Kyriakou argued that the accusations are ironic, as he claims the situation was created by Michaelides himself during his tenure. According to Kyriakou, Michaelides stripped him of his previous responsibilities, restricted his access to official files, and excluded him from the office's operations. Kyriakou stated that he has repeatedly requested more substantial tasks, both verbally and in writing, without receiving a response. He also mentioned that he had previously warned relevant institutions about the potential risks posed by these administrative limitations, yet no significant action was taken to address his concerns.
