Religious commemorations and historical hagiographies for November 2 to 5
Between November 2 and November 5, 2026, the Orthodox Church commemorates several historical figures and saints. The cycle begins with the feast of martyrs Akindynos, Pegasios, Aphthonios, Elpidophoros, and Anempodistos, who were officials under the Persian King Shapur II and were executed in 330 AD after refusing to renounce their Christian faith. On November 3, the church observes the translation of the relics of Saint George the Trophy-bearer along with Saints Akepsimas, Joseph, and Aithalas.
On November 4, the church honors Saint George Karslides the Confessor, born in 1901 in Argyroupoli, Pontus. His life was marked by early orphanage, intense piety, and his eventual monastic tonsure in 1919. He survived communist persecution in Georgia before his later ministry. Finally, on November 5, the church commemorates the martyrs Galaktion and Episteme, who lived during the 3rd-century reign of Emperor Decius. Born to pagan parents, the couple converted to Christianity and dedicated their lives to service before being arrested during the widespread persecution under Decius, with Galaktion eventually captured by the governor Ursus.
