Cyprus police conduct island-wide security operations and make multiple arrests
On the night of November 4, 2026, Cypriot police conducted coordinated patrols across urban areas to enhance public safety and prevent criminal activity. During these operations, authorities stopped 694 vehicles, checked 925 individuals, and inspected 27 establishments. Officers issued 269 traffic citations, including 111 for speeding, and investigated several traffic-related cases. Five arrests were made for various offenses, including conspiracy to commit a felony, burglary, theft, illegal possession of property, and illegal residency.
Specific incidents in Paphos dominated the reports. A 37-year-old man was arrested following a high-speed chase in Tala after police identified a stolen vehicle; he was found to be driving without a license or insurance and was intoxicated, leading a district court to order his five-day detention. In a separate incident, two 15-year-olds confessed to stealing motorcycles in Paphos. Additionally, a 69-year-old man was arrested at the Pegeia police station after arriving to address a complaint while significantly under the influence of alcohol, with test results showing 86 micrograms of alcohol, well above the legal limit. Investigations into these matters remain ongoing.
