Police conduct wide-scale operations in Cyprus and arrest 37-year-old in Paphos
Cypriot police carried out nationwide organized patrols on the night of November 4, 2026, aimed at preventing criminal activity and ensuring public order. During these operations, authorities stopped 694 vehicles, checked 925 individuals, and inspected 27 establishments. Officers issued 269 traffic citations, including 111 for speeding, and investigated 10 traffic-related cases. Police also made five arrests for various offenses, including conspiracy to commit a felony, burglary, vehicle theft, and illegal stay within the Republic of Cyprus.
In a separate high-stakes incident in the Tala community of Paphos, officers located a stolen vehicle around 2:00 a.m. During the investigation, a 37-year-old man attempted to flee in another car, leading to a police chase during which warning shots were fired. The suspect abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot before being apprehended. Following his arrest, it was determined he was driving without a license or insurance and tested positive for alcohol. On November 4, the Paphos District Court ordered the suspect to be remanded in custody for five days to facilitate ongoing investigations conducted by the Paphos Criminal Investigation Department and the Traffic Department.
