Corruption investigation leads to 11 arrests at Katerini Urban Planning Office
On November 2, 2026, the Internal Affairs Service of the Hellenic Police conducted a major operation at the Katerini Urban Planning Office, resulting in 11 arrests. The operation targeted an alleged criminal network operating since December 2025. Those arrested include four officials from the Building Service and seven private professionals, specifically surveyors, civil engineers, architects, and mechanical engineers.
Following the arrests, authorities revealed that a total of 64 additional individuals are implicated in the case, including a building inspector and a civil servant from another government agency. The investigation was triggered by a formal complaint submitted to the Thessaloniki Court of Appeals Prosecutor, which led to a preliminary examination. Investigators uncovered that the group was systematically issuing irregular administrative acts or illegally accelerating bureaucratic procedures for various construction projects.
As the investigation continues, the second floor of the Katerini Urban Planning building remains cordoned off to ensure evidence integrity. Law enforcement agencies are currently evaluating the seized materials to determine the full extent of the illegal activities and to proceed with further legal action against the identified suspects.
