Criminal Court allows additional witness in central prisons document case
On Tuesday, the Criminal Court approved the addition of a new prosecution witness to the ongoing case concerning documents from the Central Prisons. The court rejected an objection raised by the defense team, which had challenged the necessity of calling this individual to testify.
In its ruling, the court determined that the Prosecution had fulfilled all legal notification requirements. Records show that the defense was notified via email on October 15, 2026, regarding the intention to introduce a new witness, followed by a subsequent communication detailing the witness's name and the nature of their testimony. The court cited Article 111 of the Criminal Procedure Law, which mandates that any person not originally listed on the indictment may only be called to testify if the defense has been provided with written notice containing the witness's details and the substance of their testimony. The court emphasized that such procedures must be followed to ensure fairness and provide the defense with adequate time to prepare.
The case is now expected to proceed with the inclusion of this testimony in the trial record, as the court confirmed that the Prosecution acted in accordance with procedural guidelines.
