Police archive investigation into real estate sector allegations
The Cyprus Police have officially closed an investigation into allegations that certain real estate agencies were involved in the illegal exploitation of Greek Cypriot properties in the Turkish-occupied north. Authorities concluded that there was a complete lack of evidence to substantiate claims of wrongdoing, leading the Legal Service to issue instructions for the case to be archived.
The investigation, which formally concluded on November 3, 2026, stemmed from a complaint originally publicized by the Cyprus Real Estate Agents Registration Council in May 2025. This complaint had sparked significant controversy and generated widespread negative publicity for specific businesses and the broader real estate industry in Cyprus.
Following the closure of the case, the Cyprus Real Estate Agents Association (SKEK), which is affiliated with the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KEVE), has called on media outlets to publish the findings. The association emphasizes that the public is entitled to know the outcome, noting that the original allegations caused lasting damage to the professional reputation of the sector. There are no further legal proceedings planned, as the authorities have officially deemed the matter resolved due to insufficient evidence for criminal prosecution.
