Nicosia farm owner arrested over alleged exploitation of 73-year-old man
Police in Nicosia have arrested a 37-year-old owner of a livestock farm following allegations of labour exploitation and threats of violence against a 73-year-old man. The arrest took place on November 2, 2026, after officers from the Anti-Trafficking Bureau (GKEP) received a tip-off and conducted a coordinated operation at the farm location.
Upon arriving at the facility, authorities discovered the 73-year-old victim performing cleaning duties. The elderly man was subsequently taken to the GKEP offices, where he is being treated as a potential victim of human trafficking, and investigators have recorded his testimony regarding his working and living conditions. A court-sanctioned search of the property was also conducted, resulting in the collection of various pieces of evidence.
Following the arrest, the 37-year-old suspect appeared before a court and was remanded in custody for six days to facilitate the ongoing police investigation. The case is being handled by the Anti-Trafficking Bureau in cooperation with local Nicosia police departments. Authorities continue to gather information to clarify the full extent of the alleged exploitation and determine the victim's legal status and history at the farm.
