Cyprus central bank reports shifts in interest rates for September 2026
The Central Bank of Cyprus released data on November 3, 2026, detailing significant interest rate fluctuations observed throughout September 2026. The report indicates a rise in deposit rates for both households and non-financial corporations, alongside a decline in consumer and mortgage lending rates across the banking sector.
Specifically, the interest rate for household term deposits with a duration of up to one year rose to 1.62%, compared to 1.35% in the previous month. For non-financial corporations, the rate increased to 1.70% from 1.56%. Conversely, the cost of borrowing decreased; consumer loan rates fell to 6.45% from 7.12%, and mortgage loan rates declined to 3.88% from 4.16% in August. These figures, which cover both new contracts and renegotiated agreements, highlight a shifting financial landscape in Cyprus.
Despite the upward trend in deposit rates, analysts note that these figures remain among the lowest within the eurozone average. The data, derived from monetary financial institutions, serves as a benchmark for the current credit environment in the country as stakeholders monitor how these adjustments influence consumer behavior and corporate liquidity.
