Police investigate bullying and physical assault of 11-year-old student in Nicosia
On November 3, 2026, a serious school violence incident occurred at a primary school in Nicosia, resulting in an 11-year-old student being taken to the hospital. The girl's father filed a formal complaint with the police, alleging that his daughter was assaulted by her classmates during school hours. While news sources consistently report that four 11-year-old students were involved in the assault, the father claims a separate, earlier incident occurred 15 days ago involving three classmates, and that the more recent attack involved five children who immobilized and struck her. The victim was treated at the hospital for her injuries and has since been discharged.
According to the father, the school administration previously dismissed his concerns about bullying, labeling the earlier incident as an 'unfortunate event.' The father further alleged that no teachers were present to supervise the area during the latest attack, which was eventually stopped by other students intervening. The police are now conducting an investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the events and whether school protocols regarding violence were correctly followed. The investigation is being conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Social Welfare Services.
