Omonia Nicosia faces NEC Nijmegen in Europa League clash

Omonia Nicosia prepares to face NEC Nijmegen today, November 5, 2026, at the Goffertstadion in the Netherlands for the fourth matchday of the Europa League League Phase. Currently sitting in 11th place with six points, the Cypriot side aims to secure a positive result to improve its standing for qualification. The hosts, NEC Nijmegen, occupy 20th place with four points.

Manager Henning Berg faces significant squad challenges, most notably the absence of Jure Balkovec due to a muscle injury. Other key players including Christou, Nego, Victoros, Akintola, Eiting, and Odubajo are also unavailable. In response, Berg is expected to adjust his defensive setup, potentially utilizing Duverne and Simic in the wing-back roles. Approximately 600 Omonia supporters are expected to be in attendance.

Despite the personnel difficulties, Omonia heads into the match following a strong start to the European campaign, having secured wins against Rennes and Celje before a loss to Benfica. Berg emphasized the need for defensive discipline against the aggressive Dutch side, while Dutch midfielder Loic Mrower expressed his focus on returning home to secure three points for his team.
