Nicole Malliotakis re-elected to US House of Representatives
Republican Nicole Malliotakis, 45, has been re-elected to the U.S. House of Representatives for New York's 11th congressional district. Securing 56.1% of the vote against 43.7% for her Democratic challenger Mike DeCillis, Malliotakis remains the only Republican representing New York City in Congress. The district, which encompasses Staten Island and parts of southern Brooklyn, demonstrated its support for her platform, which focuses on economic issues and national security. Her victory was projected by CNN while the vote count was ongoing, with the final tally showing her with over 100,000 votes compared to 78,000 for DeCillis.
A Greek-American of Cretan and Cuban descent, Malliotakis previously served in the New York State Assembly and was the 2017 mayoral candidate for New York City. Known for her strong ties to the Greek-American community and her support for Donald Trump, she has been a vocal critic of Turkish foreign policy. She has consistently opposed the sale of advanced U.S. fighter jets to Turkey, citing concerns regarding regional stability and the actions of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Her continued presence in Congress ensures that she remains a prominent voice advocating for Hellenic interests and challenging U.S. policy regarding Turkish military modernization.
