Upgrade plans for Kato Paphos harbor underway
Preparatory work has officially commenced for the long-planned upgrade of the Kato Paphos harbor in Cyprus. A strategic planning committee has been established, involving the Paphos Municipality, the Ports Authority, the Department of Fisheries, the Port Police, and representatives of local professional stakeholders. These initial meetings focus on modernizing the facility’s operations and infrastructure to improve overall efficiency.
Key development objectives include the potential expansion of the breakwater to provide better protection for vessels and the improvement of docking facilities to better accommodate cruise ships. Furthermore, the committee is addressing the specific needs of professional fishermen and coastal vessel operators, alongside broader discussions regarding the management of land and sea spaces within the harbor area. This collaborative effort aims to define the future operational framework of the port. The current phase involves preliminary discussions to set the foundation for subsequent architectural and engineering studies, marking a significant step toward improving the harbor’s utility for both commercial and tourism sectors.
