Nicosia General Hospital to reorganize cardiology outpatient services
Starting January 1, 2027, the Cardiology Department of the Nicosia General Hospital will transition its outpatient services into a new model of specialized clinics. The State Health Services Organisation (OKYPY) announced that the reform aims to better manage complex and challenging cardiac cases by utilizing teams of interventional cardiologists, electrophysiologists, and cardiovascular imaging experts.
The cardiology department, the largest of its kind in Cyprus, will now feature 13 specialized clinics and services, including those focused on valvular and structural heart disease, cardiomyopathies, hypertension, dyslipidaemia, and adult congenital heart disease. The new structure also incorporates a cardiopulmonary exercise laboratory. This reorganization leverages existing infrastructure, which currently includes a 24-hour cardiac catheterization laboratory and a non-invasive cardiology laboratory accredited by the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (EACVI).
According to official statements, the shift is designed to ensure that every patient is referred to the specific team best suited to their medical needs. While the department already manages the highest volume of diagnostic studies in Cyprus, this new specialized approach is intended to enhance the quality of care for patients with diverse conditions ranging from heart failure to oncological cardiac complications.
