Hermes Airports reports passenger decline in October and outlook for 2027
Cyprus airports in Larnaca and Paphos recorded 1.43 million passengers in October 2026, marking a 3% decline compared to the same period in 2025. Hermes Airports estimates that the total annual passenger volume for 2026 will reach approximately 13.3 million, a 3% decrease from the record-breaking traffic seen in 2025. The decline is attributed to rising fuel costs and shifting travel habits, which are placing significant pressure on the airline industry.
Despite these challenges, Hermes Airports participated in the Routes World 2026 conference held in Frankfurt from October 21 to 23, where they conducted over 30 meetings with airlines. During these discussions, carriers expressed intentions to strengthen their flight programs to Cyprus for 2027. Hermes Airports leadership noted that while airlines may eventually pass increased operating costs to passengers, market competition remains a primary factor in stabilizing ticket prices for travel to the island.
Moving forward, the aviation sector continues to monitor the impact of operational costs on demand. Strategic planning remains focused on the 2026-2027 winter season and expansion efforts for 2027, as airlines balance profitability challenges with the sustained interest in the Cypriot market.
