Cyprus reports resilient tourism numbers despite regional instability
Cyprus recorded a 5.6% decrease in tourist arrivals for the current year, a figure described as surprisingly positive given the ongoing regional instability. During the World Travel Market (WTM) in London, Deputy Minister of Tourism Kostas Koumis stated that the sector successfully mitigated potential losses following the uncertainty triggered by a specific event on March 1, 2026. The government expects this decline to narrow further by the end of the year.
Looking toward 2027, the outlook remains optimistic with major tour operators planning to increase available flight capacity to the island. Cypriot officials held high-level meetings with travel agents and airlines at the London exhibition to secure and strengthen these partnerships. Despite the positive momentum, officials noted that rising aviation fuel costs, heavily influenced by the conflict in the Middle East, remain a critical factor of uncertainty that may affect operations in the coming months.
