Thomas Markle arrested following investigation into child sexual abuse material
Thomas Markle, the 82-year-old father of Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, was arrested by the FBI at a senior living community in Lakeland, Florida, in early November 2026. The arrest follows an international investigation involving authorities in the United States, Mexico, and the Philippines regarding the alleged possession of child sexual abuse material (CSAM). Previous searches of a storage unit previously rented by Markle in Mexico and a former residence in the Philippines reportedly uncovered suspicious digital equipment and materials.
Philippine authorities have also expanded their inquiry to include Thomas Markle Jr., the half-brother of the Duchess, as a person of interest. Officials in Manila stated that witnesses alleged underage girls were brought to his residence, though he is not currently considered a formal suspect. Prior to his arrest, Thomas Markle had publicly denied all allegations, dismissing them as falsehoods.
The Duchess of Sussex has not yet commented on the most recent developments, though reports indicate she had been aware of concerns regarding her father since at least 2019. The case remains under active investigation with proceedings currently sealed by judicial order in the United States.
