Fraud scandal involving 'Paidiki Chara' NGO exposed
Authorities are investigating the 'Paidiki Chara' (Children's Playground) NGO following allegations that the organization systematically defrauded families of sick children and donors over an eight-year period. The founder and president, Konstantinos Firinidis, is currently appearing before an investigator regarding the alleged misappropriation of approximately 2.9 million euros. The funds, which were intended for children with serious health issues, were reportedly spent on gambling and a luxurious lifestyle.
The scandal came to light after a parent, Panagiotis Theodoridis, alleged that the NGO raised 75,000 euros in his son's name but failed to provide any of the money to his family. Leaked audio recordings show Firinidis aggressively demanding funds from donors, using derogatory language. Following the investigation, Firinidis's partner, Vasiliki Manisioti, has been remanded in custody, claiming in her testimony that the founder was addicted to gambling. Three other individuals, including a referee and a football official, have been released under restrictive conditions while the investigation proceeds.
