Marinos Sizopoulos announces withdrawal from EDEK

On Thursday, November 5, 2026, the former president of the EDEK party, Marinos Sizopoulos, announced his decision to cease any further involvement with the political organization. During a television appearance on the show "Mesimeri kai Kati" on Sigma TV, Sizopoulos stated that his "cycle" within EDEK has closed, citing deep disappointment with the current state of the party.

Sizopoulos justified his departure by alleging that he is being systematically excluded from the party's decision-making processes. He reported that he is not receiving invitations to attend meetings of the Political Bureau or the Central Committee. He argued that the current internal environment of the party undermines its dignity, integrity, and seriousness, and he stated he cannot remain part of a system that functions in this manner.

While EDEK is currently undergoing an internal restructuring process, Sizopoulos emphasized that he no longer feels he can contribute or participate under the prevailing conditions. He explicitly described the situation as intolerable, marking a definitive break with the party that historically launched his political career.
