PASYDY and Social Welfare Services refute allegations made by Isotita trade union
On November 5, 2026, the Pan-Cyprian Federation of Labour (PASYDY) and the Department of Social Welfare Services (SWS) issued formal statements rejecting claims made by the 'Isotita' trade union. The union had alleged that PASYDY proposed the privatization of the SWS and had compiled a list of staff members designated for potential relocation to other departments.
PASYDY categorically denied these claims, describing them as baseless and part of an effort to sow division and undermine the credibility of the organization. The union stated that its positions are publicly declared and that it has never acted behind closed doors to harm employees or disrupt the functioning of the social services. Similarly, the Social Welfare Services department dismissed reports regarding the transfer of authorities and staff movements as false, emphasizing that their current focus remains on the ongoing modernization process intended to improve public service.
Both the SWS administration and PASYDY underscored that modernization is a long-standing necessity supported by society. PASYDY warned that it reserves the right to take legal action against those who spread or reproduce what it terms as falsehoods. The authorities have invited all stakeholders to participate in the active consultation process to contribute constructive proposals for the future of the services.
