Ombudsman refers Paphos EOAs to Attorney General over construction complaint
Commissioner for Administration and Human Rights Maria Stylianou-Lottidi has referred the Paphos District Self-Government Organization (EOA) to the Attorney General, citing a potential criminal offense. The referral stems from the organization’s systematic failure to cooperate with an investigation into a citizen's complaint regarding a three-story building constructed in the Paphos district.
The complainant alleges that the structure was built without maintaining required setbacks from her property, causing rainwater to flood her home and inflict structural damage. The Ombudsman has demanded that the General Manager of the Paphos EOA provide comprehensive feedback within four weeks. The inquiry specifically asks whether appropriate urban and building permits were issued, whether conditions were met, and why the building was seemingly permitted to stand on the boundary line adjacent to the complainant's property.
This action follows the organization's repeated failure to assist the Commissioner's office in resolving the dispute. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities now await the documentation and official response from the Paphos EOA regarding potential regulatory breaches.
