OECD report highlights teenage career uncertainty as Frederick University launches guidance initiative
A 2025 OECD report titled 'The State of Global Teenage Career Preparation' reveals that adolescents worldwide are experiencing growing uncertainty and confusion regarding their future professional paths. Comparing data from 2000 to 2022 across more than 80 countries, the findings indicate that students frequently struggle to identify their interests or career direction even by their final year of secondary education. Research highlights that participation in career guidance activities is essential for helping students set clearer goals and prepare effectively for their future.
In response to these challenges, Frederick University has launched the 'Career Discovery Program' in Nicosia and Limassol for students aged 15 to 18. This initiative aims to transform professional orientation into an experiential process, offering interactive workshops in fields such as healthcare, technology, business, education, and design. The program is designed to help teenagers identify their individual skills and inclinations. Additionally, the university is hosting a specialized workshop for parents to provide guidance on how to support their children during the transition to higher education.
