32-year-old remanded for arson at Limassol Marina restaurant
A 32-year-old man from Limassol was arrested on November 5 regarding an arson attack at a restaurant located in Limassol Marina. The incident occurred in the early hours of October 31, around 5:15 a.m., when a perpetrator used a flammable substance to set fire to the establishment's glass display and exterior equipment. Private security guards at the site managed to extinguish the flames before they could spread into the building interior.
Police investigators utilized extensive CCTV footage to track the suspect’s movements, observing him walking from his home in the Agios Antonios area to a parking lot to collect hidden materials before the attack, and returning the same way afterward. He was identified partly due to a khaki shirt he wore during the incident, which matched footage of the perpetrator, despite his attempts to discard other clothing items, such as a jacket and gloves, in a trash bin. The suspect confessed to the act upon questioning.
On November 6, the Limassol District Court granted a police request to remand the suspect for eight days to facilitate further inquiries. Authorities are currently investigating the suspect's motive and examining whether this incident is linked to an earlier shooting that occurred on September 17 at a company office also owned by the 60-year-old victim.
