Limassol police investigate cryptocurrency investment fraud
Police in Limassol, Cyprus, are investigating a significant case of online investment fraud reported on November 5, 2026. A 41-year-old local resident filed a complaint with the Limassol CID after losing a total of $280,000 to an unidentified online scheme.
The victim first encountered an online advertisement promoting cryptocurrency investment opportunities in early September 2026. After initiating contact with an individual posing as an investor, the victim was persuaded to make an initial deposit of $100,000. Over the following months, the perpetrators displayed fake reports of significant profits to encourage additional deposits. When the victim attempted to withdraw his funds, the perpetrators refused, citing various excuses and demanding further payments under the guise of processing fees for fund release. Realizing he had been defrauded, the man reported the incident to the authorities.
Investigations into the cyber fraud are currently ongoing under the supervision of the Limassol Police Department, as they continue to track the perpetrators and examine the fraudulent platform used in the scam.
