Limassol mayor presents climate neutrality plans in Barcelona
Mayor of Limassol, Yiannis Armeutis, participated as a speaker at the Smart Cities Expo World Congress 2026, held in Barcelona on November 5, 2026. During the panel session titled "From Ambition to Implementation: Urban Climate Action Across Sectors," he presented the city's strategic vision for achieving climate neutrality by 2030.
Central to the presentation was the city’s Master Plan, which focuses on developing "Green Routes"—accessible corridors that integrate leisure, culture, and nature to mitigate urban heat and promote sustainable mobility. Armeutis emphasized that this initiative relies heavily on data-driven insights provided through collaborations with key institutions, including the Cyprus Institute, the University of Cyprus, and Frederick University.
Furthermore, the mayor highlighted the redevelopment of Aktaia Odos as a model for public-private cooperation. This project aims to reconnect the Limassol Marina with the New Port, transforming a previously neglected industrial zone into an accessible green public space that prioritizes sustainable urban design. These developments represent a broader effort to modernize Limassol’s infrastructure while ensuring long-term environmental sustainability.
