ELAM calls for cancellation of Real Madrid Foundation activities in occupied Cyprus

The Greek Cypriot political party ELAM has formally requested the cancellation of planned activities by the Real Madrid Foundation in the northern occupied areas of Cyprus. The party claims that the foundation, which operates through its branch in Turkey, is organizing a friendly match in the region. ELAM views these activities as an attempt to legitimize the ongoing Turkish occupation and has called upon the government of the Republic of Cyprus to take immediate diplomatic action to stop the event.

This development follows the recent cancellation of a training camp organized by FC Barcelona in the occupied territories. That event was successfully blocked after organized protests and diplomatic efforts from the Greek Cypriot side. ELAM maintains that such initiatives by European football clubs, whether intentional or not, serve Turkey's geopolitical interests regarding the status of the occupied lands.

The party has addressed the central administration of Real Madrid in Spain, demanding a definitive cancellation of the event. ELAM stated its commitment to preventing any activities that could be interpreted as recognition of the unrecognized administration in the north, characterizing the move as an unacceptable involvement in the sensitive political landscape of the island.
