Ministry of interior introduces reforms to rural road registration
The Ministry of Interior has initiated a comprehensive regulatory reform to streamline the registration of rural roads, aiming to resolve long-standing bureaucratic obstacles and unlock land development. Minister Constantinos Ioannou stated that the new manual provides a clear framework for registering existing rural roads and creating new access routes for landlocked plots that currently lack connectivity.
Since the beginning of 2026, authorities have successfully registered 112 rural roads and processed approximately 500 requests from stakeholders. The initiative is designed to increase administrative efficiency and facilitate the utilization of previously dormant land. In addition to these efforts, the government has launched a pilot urban consolidation project in ten regions, which is supported by European funding. This broader strategy intends to modernize infrastructure and stimulate economic development in local communities that have been constrained by poor road accessibility.
