Cyprus leaders to meet UN envoy to discuss potential resumption of talks
The President of the Republic of Cyprus and the Turkish Cypriot leader are scheduled to meet with Maria Angela Holguin, the personal envoy of the UN Secretary-General, on Monday. Victoras Papadopoulos, Director of the Press Office of the President, described this as a critical moment in efforts to resolve the Cyprus issue. Officials hope the meeting will pave the way for an expanded conference aimed at officially restarting negotiations, provided there is sufficient political will from both sides.
Discussions are also expected to focus on potential confidence-building measures, with sources indicating that the opening of four new border crossing points is currently under deliberation. The proposed locations for these new crossings include Mia Milia, Athienou-Pyrogi-Aglantzia, Louroujina-Lympia, and Kampos-Karavostasi. While the potential for positive developments exists, it remains to be seen whether a definitive agreement on these measures will be finalized and announced during Monday’s meeting.
