National and Kapodistrian University of Athens delegation visits Cypriot Parliament
On November 6, 2026, a delegation consisting of faculty and students from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) visited the House of Representatives in Cyprus. The delegation was welcomed by Chrysanthos Savvidis, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Education, and committee member Prodromos Alabritis, acting on behalf of the President of the House.
During the meeting, the participants exchanged views on educational issues, with the Cypriot officials emphasizing the historic and academic ties between Greece and Cyprus. Mr. Savvidis underscored the vital role of education as a long-term investment for Cyprus, especially in the post-1974 period. Mr. Alabritis highlighted the significance of the NKUA establishing a local branch in Cyprus, noting that the Cypriot Parliament has actively supported this initiative to enhance the national higher education landscape.
The discussion served as a reaffirmation of the strategic cooperation between the two institutions. The Cypriot MPs pledged to continue their support for the NKUA, which they described as a cornerstone of Greek scientific and academic excellence. The visit was part of an educational mission organized to further strengthen institutional and academic collaboration between Greece and Cyprus.
