Government addresses long-standing quarry issues in Sia
On November 6, 2026, the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Christos Senekis, visited the community of Sia to address long-standing concerns regarding local quarry operations. The visit included a meeting with the Community Council and relevant state authorities to discuss the impact of the quarry on residents, specifically focusing on environmental factors, the proximity of residential zones to the site, and the quality of life.
During the discussions, it was decided to establish a specialized committee tasked with creating an action plan. This committee will set clear priorities and timelines to mitigate the negative effects of the quarry, with a primary focus on monitoring vibrations, noise levels, and dust pollution. The Minister emphasized that the government aims to find scientifically backed solutions that balance economic activity with environmental protection and the well-being of the local population.
The initiative aims to foster a harmonious coexistence between the community and the industrial sector. Future steps include the development of a structured action plan by the newly formed committee, which will serve as the framework for subsequent government policy decisions concerning the area.
