APOEL celebrates 100th anniversary with city illuminations and matches

APOEL Nicosia is marking its centenary this week, celebrating 100 years since its founding on November 8, 1926. To commemorate the milestone, the Nicosia Municipal Council voted to illuminate the City Hall and Eleftheria Square in the club's colors, blue and yellow. While the decision passed, it faced opposition from AKEL municipal councilors, leading to a public debate regarding the historical significance of the club within the capital. The city's official buildings, including the City Hall which formerly housed the club's offices, will serve as centerpieces for the festive activities.

In addition to the city-wide celebrations, the club is hosting a series of events, including a torch relay organized by the fan association, an exhibition of historical artifacts, and a Fan Day. On the sporting front, manager Nikos Papadopoulos is balancing squad fitness ahead of a critical home match against Aris on Sunday at GSP Stadium. APOEL remains the only team in the league with a perfect home record this season, having secured three wins in three matches with a goal difference of 12-2. The team aims to utilize the momentum of the centenary celebrations to maintain their winning streak and improve their standing in the league table.
