APOEL Nicosia celebrates its centenary anniversary

APOEL Nicosia, one of Cyprus's most successful athletic clubs, is celebrating its 100th anniversary this weekend, following its formal founding on November 8, 1926, at a confectionery on Ledra Street. Thousands of supporters gathered in Nicosia on the night of November 7 to mark the milestone with a celebratory torchlight procession, pyrotechnics, and chants, culminating in the lighting of a commemorative flame at the club's headquarters.

The festivities continue today, November 8, with a high-stakes match between APOEL and Aris Limassol at the GSP Stadium. Beyond the competitive aspect of the match, the club has planned an elaborate ceremony following the final whistle to honor key figures and celebrate the history of the institution. APOEL has long been a dominant force in Cypriot football, holding a record number of domestic titles and notable European achievements, including a historic run to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League in 2012.

Currently, the team is preparing for this anniversary match while competing in the ninth round of the Cyprus League by Stoiximan. The club remains a pillar of Cypriot sports, having finished in the top three of its domestic league in over 78% of its history.
