Mass shooting in central Krakow results in nine deaths
On November 7, 2026, a 25-year-old Polish national carried out a deadly shooting attack at the Main Market Square in Krakow. The attacker drove his vehicle into the crowded tourist area and indiscriminately fired at pedestrians using a military-grade long-barreled weapon. He was wearing tactical clothing and an armored vest at the time of the incident. Police engaged the suspect, wounding him during the arrest; he was subsequently hospitalized in serious condition. While initial reports varied, official counts confirmed six fatalities at the scene—four women and two men—including a British national, and fifteen individuals were injured, including five foreign nationals and three police officers.
Following the attack, authorities discovered the bodies of three of the assailant's relatives at his home, bringing the total death toll related to the perpetrator to nine. Interior Minister Marcin Kierwinski stated that the suspect was influenced by radical, far-right, and ultranationalist ideologies. Prime Minister Donald Tusk has declared two days of national mourning as the investigation into the attacker’s motives and the broader circumstances of the massacre continues. Security services and counter-terrorism units are currently analyzing evidence found in the suspect's vehicle and residence.
